The SOM-16 reviewed national and subregional activities and processes in preparation of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20) to be held in 2012, and adopted the Chair's Summary. The summary was presented at the Asian and Pacific Regional Preparatory Meeting for UNCSD held on 19-20 October 2011 and submitted to the UNCSD Secretariat for the compilation document.
Seventy youth from China, Japan, Mongolia, Republic of Korea, and Russian Federation attended the 1st UNESCAP Subregional Forum for Youth Participation in Policy-Making held on 15-17 August 2011, the Republic of Korea. As part of the sustainable development workshop during the forum, the youth participants agreed on a number of policy measures and actions, and formulated the Youth Statement as their contribution to Rio+20.
